Te Pahū Sound Lounge

Hopetoun Brown     Saturday, 7 November 2026

Hopetoun Brown and the genius of Finn Scholes live at Te Pahū Sound Lounge
What a winter we’ve had. These special nights at Te Pahu are such a treat. On Saturday November 7th you’ll hear the golden tonsils of Tim Stewart join longtime bandmate Nick Atkinson on bass clarinet. The best news is that Carnivorous Plant Society band-leader and trumpeter extraordinaire Finn Scholes will be joining Hopetoun Brown and he’ll be bringing his keyboard and tuba chops too! This is the only chance this year you’ll get to catch a whole evening of Hopetoun Brown with Finn Scholes. They’ve been Taite Prize finalists, they’ve rocked Splore and WOMAD. They’re the horn section of choice for Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson and of course Supergroove. During a Hopetouns set they delve deeply into spiritual jazz and blues. Some songs start with a swampy stomp, others with mercurial woodwind funk. Hopetoun Brown shows are like precious gems these days. They only get out of bed for the truly special sets now… and all the other bands have hovered up their remaining dates first lolz! We’re gonna have fun tonight as we kick winter in the ass and raise a toast to Paula and Wayne of Sound Lounge fame!!

Seels & Sanders       Friday, 6 March 2027

Seel & Sanders are a British acoustic duo bringing together two distinctive musical worlds: the English songwriting tradition of Bert Jansch and Nick Drake, and the Mediterranean fire of the bouzouki.

The result is a sound that crosses Celtic folk, Americana and world music in a performance that is intimate, exhilarating and completely original.

Butter Wouldn’t Melt         Saturday, 8 May 2027

Finalists for the 2023 Best Folk Artist Tūī | Te Kaipuoro Taketake Toa with their first album 1931. Butter Wouldn’t Melt is the very definition of a grassroots, do-it-yourself band. Every note, every frame, every brushstroke is their own — written, recorded, mixed, mastered, promoted, filmed, and designed.

The band includes Andrea Reid (Vocals and rhythm guitar), Nick Burfield (Vocals and lead guitar), Cara Brasted (Fiddle and vocals), Marz Connelly (Double bass and vocals).

Butter Wouldn’t Melt blend folk, Americana bluegrass, and country influences with a distinctly New Zealand flavour, promising an evocative performance defined by their poetic lyricism, powerful harmonies and thought provoking stories.

Admission by invitation, for tickets please email Wayne & Paula

We’re pleased to offer our home to present live music in Te Pahū.  As well as concerts we’ve also enjoyed theatre performances and art exhibitions.

We’ve been entertained by a wide range of musical styles – and been wowed by the amazing skills and musicality of the travelling minstrals.

It’s the home of Sylvia’s Toaster ukulele band, and practices are held here most Wednesdays.

When not in use for performances the room is our lounge – however it was built for use as a small theatre, music room and library. There are good acoustics by way of its shape and use of irregular sized timber, and shelves of books. There’s a projector and stage lights.  Seating is casual – lounge suites, chairs, some old theatre seats, beanbags and carpets.

Audience size has ranged from about 15 to over 80.  Entrance is by donation – all proceeds go to the performers.

There is a housetruck, small caravan and room available for accomodation.

Admission by invitation, for tickets please email Wayne & Paula

Here are flyers and photos from some of the shows
